Dr. Kathryn Coccia

Interprofessional Aging Scholar, Social Gerontologist, Board Certified Music Therapist, Community Death Doula

I am an interprofessional scholar and clinician dedicated to improving care experiences and outcomes for older adults. My research includes work on ageism, geriatric workforce development, Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias, end-of-life care, and non-pharmacological interventions for older adults, including music therapy.

I recently completed my PhD in Social Work at Saint Louis University, where my dissertation introduced a first-of-its-kind TikTok-based intervention designed to boost health students’ interest in geriatrics through parasocial engagement with older adults.

Before pursuing my doctorate, I worked as a board-certified music therapist, primarily in hospice care, and supervised music therapy interns and practicum students. I am currently seeking research and academic opportunities where I can continue contributing to innovative, interdisciplinary aging scholarship.
